'Best' Southampton school praised by Ofsted

Mansel Park Primary and Nursery School received praise from inspectors, following the school’s most recent visit last month, with Ofsted noting the school would have been rated ‘outstanding,’ had it been graded.

The primary school was awarded a ‘good’ Ofsted rating in 2019, with the next inspection set to be graded.

The report highlighted the school’s rigorous, child-centred approach. Ofsted said: “Pupils flourish socially and academically because nothing is left to chance.

“Everything pupils experience in class and beyond is purposefully planned and carefully checked for the difference it makes. Deliberate teaching of the school values of ‘determination, perseverance, positivity and resilience,’ fosters pupils’ consistently enthusiastic attitudes to school and to their learning.”

Paul Lodge, co-headteacher, said he was “delighted with Ofsted’s recognition of the love, care and relentless drive that happens on a daily basis.”

He added: “Our children are always at the centre of decisions made and school staff are determined to do the best for all in their care.”

Earlier this year the primary school said it was “exceptionally proud” after it was crowned the best school in the city after the Department for Education released data on the number of students meeting the expected standard in reading, writing, and maths.

Ofsted noted the school’s significant investment in teacher’s professional development and how this directly impacts on children “pays dividends.”

“Teachers’ knowledge of the subjects they teach is secure, they know the curriculum inside out and are well versed in reputable research about how pupils learn best,” the report said.

Gerida Montague, executive headteacher of the Learning Federation Partnership of Schools, added: “We are delighted that the school’s brilliant work over a long period of time has been recognised by Ofsted.

“The most pleasing thing to hear from the inspector was that, in over a decade of inspection, she had never come across a more dedicated, driven staff team.”
