OLSJ is Hampshire’s Best Primary School
The beautiful New Forest town of Lymington can now add “Hampshire's best-performing primary school” to its selling points.
Our Lady and St Joseph Catholic Primary School is located on the outskirts of the town and jointly topped the leaderboard for the county's best-performing primary school.
We hold this honour along with Wherwell School in Andover.
This was part of the Department for Education's (DfE) primary school performance tables for 2024/25.
Schools were ranked on the percentage of pupils meeting the expected standard.
This entailed pupils achieving a scaled score of 100 or more in their reading and maths tests, and their teacher assesses them as 'working at the expected standard' or better in writing.
Our Lady and St Joseph Catholic Primary School saw 93% of its students reach the expected standard.
In a statement discussing the achievement, co-executive headteachers Gerida Montague and Ian Prince said: “This recognition is a testament to the hard work of our pupils, staff and wider school community.
“We are proud to provide an environment where children feel supported, challenged and inspired to achieve their very best.”
In an additional statement, the school shared: "The achievement reflects the school’s strong academic culture alongside its commitment to nurturing, child-centred education.
"With small class sizes and a 1:15 pupil–teacher ratio, pupils benefit from highly personalised learning, enabling them to explore, question and deepen their understanding in a supportive environment."
